I want to change this about healthcare??? That’s a great question! I think what I would change about healthcare is the ability to ‘heal’ the whole person, not just one ailment. Rather than prescribing medication for this problem, but this medication has these side effects, so we will prescribe this medication to help with prescription A’s side effects, and so on, I’d rather they look at the whole issue. For example, if somebody is depressed, rather than jumping on the medication train and prescribing Zoloft, look into why that person is depressed. Maybe they had a bad month, got laid off work, their relationship is rocky, etc. Work on those issues, rather than trying to cover up the actual issue. I understand that doctor’s don’t necessarily have the time to do this, which is understandable, but it’d be great if they had a list of business referrals that they could give a patient to help them with their issues.
I guess that’s one reason that health coaching caught my eye. We aren’t here to diagnose or prescribe, but we are here to help. We are here to listen. We look at the person as a whole, addressing not only food related issues, but personal issues that may cause a person to go towards food for comfort. Health coaching isn’t just about food, but it’s about healing the person as a whole. It’s such a unique take on coaching, but I think when used correctly and with the right clients, it can definitely be beneficial.
