Weight Loss Challenge – Day 9

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 9

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 9I weighed in yesterday and I am currently down 6.5lbs. A lot of this was probably water weight as I was feeling SUPER bloated when we started the challenge, but I also think a lot of it has to do with just eating 100% better. We are juicing daily, lots of salads for lunch without all the bad for you good stuff, and eating our normal well rounded dinners. It’s been a good change and while I miss some food, it hasn’t been too bad at all. I’m looking forward to making permanent long term changes after the challenge.

We have a group weight in next Monday to see what we’ve all lost 2 weeks in, then there are only 2 weeks to go after that. Very excited!

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 8

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 8

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 8So the weekend has come and gone. It was a good weekend. We were able to get a lot of family time in, which was very needed after a busy week last week.

The weight loss challenge is going well. I haven’t weighed myself since Wednesday, but I definitely feel flatter in my belly so that’s nice. We’ve been having a fresh juice every day so far and it’s been really, really nice. My skin has cleared up a lot, I’m not so bloated, and I’m feeling overall, really good. We plan on keeping up the juicing daily even after the challenge is over, because we like how it makes us feel.

I’ll weigh myself today to see what progress has been made. I am not really feeling like I’m depriving myself at all, but I am craving some little junk foods like the Girl Scout Cookies sitting patiently in the cupboard. Hopefully they’ll be there when we are done. And if not, there is always next year!

How Are My Goals For 2015 Coming Along – Part 2

Alright – here’s an update on my goals. This helps hold me keep myself accountable, and hopefully allows you to make a few goals for yourself too!

1 – Post 1-2 new recipes per week. You can view some of my older recipes HEREI’ve posted a few new juicing recipes, but with being the weight loss challenge for work, I’ve been recycling quite a few tried and true recipes from the past. We will be giving the Mexican Stewed Chicken some love this upcoming week though! It’s easy, cheap, and has minimal ingredients. PERFECT!

2 – Write a blog post 1-2 times per week. I’m up to 5 times this week (well this is #6)! WOO HOO.

3 – Start running again. I’m starting the Couch to 5K program this weekend, so wish me luck! I tore a tendon in my foot 2 years ago and last time I tried running it bothered me, but I’m motivated and my husband said he’d start too.

4 – I started a new hobby thanks to Christmas. Still working on this new hobby. Details to come once I get it going a bit more. (I’m leaving this the same, but I did just finish one project with this new hobby and hope to turn it into something awesome.)

5 – Finish the HUGE knitted blanket that I started almost 3 years ago. I’m about 3/4 of the way through with crocheting this together. I taught myself how to crochet all the little pieces together. I just have 2 big rows to attach, then the edging will be done. Below you’ll see all the pieces are done, they just need to be put together. Everyone has asked me what this blanket is going to be fore. Now that I think about it, I have NO idea!

6 – Slowly stockpile our food supply. I’m going to be canning a bit this weekend. I’ll be making some sauerkraut and pickled asparagus. We can live off that in case of an apocalypse, right?

7 – Get the kid’s rooms organized, once and for all! About 1/2 way there. My son cleaned his room and organized it extremely well. The rule was to our standards and he did it. Plus the video game he got in exchange was only $17, so that’s pretty sweet. Our daughter just had a birthday and got a ton of cool stuff. Now I just need to go through her old stuff to make room for the new stuff. That’ll take some time.

8 – Turn health coaching into more a career than a fun hobby. Slowly but surely working away on this. Lots of craziness in our lives, but it’s nice to have that knowledge.

9 – With my day job, I’m now a copy editor for a popular website. DONE! Posted prices on here and also posted it so all of my health coaching contacts can see it. 🙂

10 – Take a nice vacation with the family in the summer. We still have our spot planned out, just finalizing the dates.

11 – Stop stressing. I feel like I’m improving on this day by day. Some days are crazier than others, and you just have to take this in stride. So far, success.

12 – Get more date nights with my husband! We went to dinner with some friends of ours (without kids) a couple of weeks ago. Time to start planning something for April.

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 5

Weight Loss Challenge Day 5

day5Well yesterday was one of the busiest days our family has had in a VERY long time. First I worked (which sadly was my slow point of my day). Then it was off to an orthodontist appointment, soccer practice, picking up Bountiful Baskets, followed by an Open House at my daughter’s new school. But guess what? I held strong and stuck with our diet plan! I’m so glad that I was able to. I got a little worried as we rolled back up to our house around 8pm. Luckily I had put dinner in a crockpot and it was ready to go.

I did learn something new yesterday with our juice though. I HATE celery when it’s juice. It was terrible! Today I’m making up for it with a juice that contains:

1 grapefruit
1 1/2 oranges
1 apple
1/2 beet

I’m sure some people really enjoy juice celery, but it was not a favorite of mine. My juicing book should be here tomorrow so I’ll take back the one I got from the library and start making notes in the one that is mine. I haven’t weighed myself since Wednesday. Our scale at home is dead, and I keep forgetting to buy batteries, but I feel really good. I won’t be blogging about day 6 & 7. I’m going to relax and spend some quality time with my family 🙂 And I made a list of ALL the produce we have in the house, which is a ton. Time to figure out how to use it all without it going bad.

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 4

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 4

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 4Still going strong! Today is day 4 and I’m feeling really, really great. I feel like I have a lot of energy and my skin is clearing up quite a bit. My belly feels flatter and all around, I feel great. I was really wanting something sweet last night, so I made Peanut Butter Popcorn. When this is split into 6 servings, it’s only about 110 calories per serving, which is a great snack!

So far I’m down 3.2lb, and I wish I would have measured inches before we started. Maybe it’s not too late just to keep track of all that is lost. For right now, I definitely feel that I can continue on for another 24 days, no problem!

Today we had oatmeal for breakfast, and I can’t express how much I HATE OATMEAL!!!!! I only gave myself about 1/2 a serving, and ended up gagging it down. Yes, gagging it down. That’s how much I hate oatmeal. I looked at it and realized that I don’t need to eat it and I hate it so much, so why try to choke it down. I’m not feeling too hungry, but when I do, I will have a salad or maybe a fresh juice. We had juice 3 days in a row so far and it’s been really great. I just ordered this great book off Amazon because I loved it so much – The Big Book Of Juices. It has over 400 juicing recipes and gives them star ratings depending on what they are best for: skin, digestion, etc. I checked it out from the library but decided I needed one for myself too, especially since I plan on juicing every day from here on out. We moved the juicer down to the counter so it’s easy to access. Before it was in the pantry hidden behind stuff, then we put it on top of a shelf to make it more visible, but now that it has its own spot, I’ll be using it a lot more. Well, that’s the update for today! I got this!

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 3

Weight Loss Challenge Day 3

Weight Loss Challenge Day 3Well we are down 2 days, only 26 more to go! I am feeling really good. I’m not starving myself by any means, but really focusing on eating only whole foods and avoiding processed sugars and sweets. I tend to be a snacker, so I’m also focusing on healthy snacks rather than grabbing the closest thing to me that looks good. We had a great juice yesterday for breakfast:
1/2 pineapple
2 oranges
1 lime
Throw that in the juicer, and it was a tropical paradise. I’m loving having fresh juice every morning, and definitely feel that my belly is getting a little flatter. I’m not so bloated. I think my skin is pushing out all the nastiness, but hopefully within a few days that’ll be over. Just wanted to check in and let you know how things are going!

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 2

Weight Loss Challenge Day 2

Weight Loss Challenge Day 2Well we did our weigh ins yesterday, and while I was heavier than I thought, it wasn’t all that unexpected. I ate pretty poorly over the last week, so the gain was inevitable. But yesterday, we ate really well, starting with a fresh juice in the morning, a nice big salad for lunch, then a sensible dinner. I also took the dog for a 1.25 mile walk around a local park which was nice for both of us. This week we are pretty busy with 2 soccer games, 2 soccer practices, dance class, school open house, jiujitsu, along with everything else that comes with our regular week. But we are determined, and with a little bit of planning, I think we can be very successful with this challenge. For my juice yesterday, here is the recipe:

2 c. strawberries
1 orange, peeled
1/2 apple
2 carrots, scrubbed

Put them all in the juicer, and there you have it.

I’m feeling pretty good only one day into the weight loss challenge, but let’s see how the next 27 days go!
