Weight Loss Challenge – Day 18

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 18

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 18Sorry I didn’t write about day 17 yesterday. I decided to take the day off from work and get some major deep cleaning done. If you have kids, you know it’s impossible to do any type of deep cleaning in their room while they are home. Well, I rarely get an opportunity to clean when they aren’t around. So I decided to take the day off work and while the kids were at school, I deep cleaned my daughter’s room. Here is a before & after:

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 6.34.38 AMWow! Was it gratifying ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m so glad that I took some time off to get this done. And she LOVED it! I also threw away 6 bags of who knows what. I honestly can’t tell you what I got rid of, and she didn’t notice either. She laid down in the middle of her floor, and then started noticing all the things she ‘lost’ and now they were found.

But my day didn’t stop there. We have a neighborhood Facebook page where people post everything from dog’s pooping on their lawn to suspicious activity to things they may be selling or giving away. I’ve been wanting a shelf for our dining room/kitchen area where I can put some of my commonly used recipe books, plants, and eventually some fresh herbs. I don’t really want to spend the money on something I don’t necessarily need and I didn’t have an idea in mind for exactly what I wanted. But luck would have it that one of the neighbors was getting rid of 3 big boxes that when stacked on top of each other would be a cute shelf. It was 3 wooden crates that are in pretty good condition. I decided to paint them a color that would match our kitchen table and for about $10.00 I have a new shelf. The paint is still drying, so I figure if the shelf doesn’t work out, they would make perfect planter boxes. I’ll keep you posted on how they worked out best.

Since I was home all day by myself yesterday, I had to take full advantage and get as much stuff done as possible. I’m still working on my blanket, but I’m SO close to being done. I was going to keep working on it last night, but eyes started playing tricks on me and it didn’t quite work out. I guess I was a little tired. But as far as the weight loss goes, we are still going strong. We both want something sweet, so last night I made banana peanut butter ice cream. It was delicious and only had those 2 ingredients. I’ll post the recipe this weekend!

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 16

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 16We weighed in yesterday, and I’m down about 4.5% of my weight in 2 weeks. A lot of this is water weight, but I know that a lot of it has to do with juicing, watching what foods I eat, and focusing on clean snacking habits. I haven’t had any sugar in 16 days. That’s even with Easter! We have another 2 weeks and will do our final weigh in on the 20th. I’m looking forward to this. It has been a lot easier doing this challenge with my husband. We both support each other, vent to each other, and talk about our cravings and how much we want pizza and Jack Daniels, but we’ve powered through and haven’t strayed yet.

Right now I’m in 3rd place in the competition. My husband is in 1st, but we are all separated by only .7%, which isn’t much at all. I’m looking forward to the next 2 weeks. I’ll probably be a bit antisocial so there are zero temptations, but it’ll be worth it. Especially if one of us ends up winning! ๐Ÿ™‚

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 15

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 15

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 15This seemed like a great Day 15 picture, because of the quote that was included! Man, oh man! Was Easter hard!!!! Surrounded by some of my favorite candy, but we held strong. Also the street we live on does an Easter egg hunt for all of the neighbor kids. Last year we all hung out for about an hour, called it good, and went our separate ways. Well this year, it turned into a 4 hour hang out session, which was great, but everyone was enjoying mimosas and cocktails except for us. That took some serious will power considering I’m a sucker for a mimosa! I would honestly drink them all day if I could. But nope! My husband and I held SUPER strong! I even came in the house and made us a fresh juice and went back outside to drink it. It was fun hanging out with all of the neighbors, but a holiday is a terrible time for a weight loss challenge. ๐Ÿ™‚ But that’s alright, it’s over and done with. And considering all of the candy the kids got, there will definitely be some left over in 2 weeks. But we are on Day 15 now. Only 2 more weeks left, so let’s see how this goes. We have a mid-challenge weigh in today. I’m feeling pretty good. Hopefully the scale agrees.

8 Tips For Exercising In The Heat

4ccb6d678ce3f64a_run-heatJust because it’s hot outside, doesn’t mean you need to give up on exercising. Here are 8 tips to help you continue exercise in the heat!

  1. Consider changing the time that you exercise. If you typically exercise in the afternoon, try exercising in the morning or evening when temperatures tend to be cooler.
  2. Wear sunscreen. Not only will it help protect your skin from skin cancer and a sunburn, but a sunburn can hinder your ability to work out for 1-2 weeks after the initial burn.
  3. Stay hydrated! Drink 1-2 cups of water 30 minutes before your work out. Continue to drink water every 15 minutes while working out. When done with your work out, drink another 1-2 cups of water.
  4. Switch up your workouts. If adjusting your workout schedule won’t work for you, try different workouts like yoga, pilates, exercise classes, etc. that are offered during your preferred exercise time. They typically take place in areas that are air conditioned so when it’s hot outside, it’ll be cool inside.
  5. Work out inside. If you prefer to run or ride a bike, try a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike instead. You can adjust the incline to create hills while working out inside.
  6. Listen to your body. If you start to experience headaches, nausea, difficulty breathing, or cramps, it’s okay to stop. Take it slow and it’s possible the heat is getting to you causing heat exhaustion. Don’t push your body further than it can go.
  7. Take the workout slow until your body has acclimated to the hot weather. Slowly work your way up to the pace you want to achieve.
  8. Exercise with a partner. This will make your workout more fun, but also in case of an emergency, you have someone there to help or vice versa.

Pineapple Chicken – Dinner Recipe

Pineapple Chicken

Pineapple ChickenI’ve been trying to get creative with our meals while doing the weight loss challenge, which isn’t always easy. But over the weekend I made a great meal and will probably have it this weekend again, because that’s how great it was!

2 lbs chicken thighs w/ skin (I didn’t eat the skin, but used it to hold in flavor)
2 TBSP olive oil (divided)
1 TBSP soy sauce
2 c. diced pineapple
3 zucchini (quartered length wise)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 TBSP balsamic vinegar
Salt & pepper to taste

For the chicken, I placed the chicken thighs in large bowl, then covered it with 1 TBSP olive oil, soy sauce, and pineapple. Once everything was in the bowl, I mixed it well to ensure the chicken was covered. Place in the refrigerator for 2 hours. We BBQ’d the chicken after it marinaded, but you could also bake it if needed. For the zucchini, I cut the ends off then quartered lengthwise, laying them on a cutting board. I brushed both sides with 1 TBSP olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. We cooked these for about 4-5 minutes on each side, then brushed each piece with balsamic vinegar, cooking for another 1-2 minutes.

We had leftover chicken so we warmed that up the next day and used it as a great salad topper. YUM!

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 12

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 12

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 12Ahhhhh….. the weekend is almost here! Another weekend of lounging around the house, cleaning up for spring, buying a new lawnmower because ours decided to explode, and of course, healthy eating!

Today’s juice will consist of 2 grapefruit & 2 kiwis. I got our Bountiful Basket last night and was excited to see some mangoes and cantaloupe in there, along with some oranges. We were picking up Saturday mornings, but we found one that is Thursday evening and it seems to work out better for everyone. And it’s nice being able to sleep in on Saturday mornings when we don’t have soccer.

What are your plans for the weekend? I’m determined to finish my blanket! I only have one long side left that needs a border and then I AM DONE! After 3 years of making it, I’m sad to see the project end, but now I’ll have time for other projects, so that’s fun. And the family and I are going to try to go fishing either tonight or tomorrow night. We have a small fishing pond near our house, and thanks to a kind teenager, he let us know the fish never bite in the morning, when we usually go, only in the evening! Well maybe we can get some dinner then!

Weight Loss Challenge – Day 11

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 11

Weight Loss Challenge - Day 11Yesterday was a good day. I was able to work from home because our daughter is off school from Spring Break and I didn’t have a sitter. So I was able to sleep in a little longer since I didn’t have to get ready for work. My energy kind of hit rock bottom around 2:30pm yesterday though. So I took a quick nap while snuggling up with my baby girl (she’s not really a baby anymore, but if she’ll snuggle, I’ll take it!). Then I felt great. I made 12 cups of homemade chicken broth, and worked on my giant blanket. It is SO close to being done, it’s really all I want to do, is finish it. But other than that, all is well. I’ll be posting the recipe of one of the best meals I’ve come up with in awhile, well at least while we’ve been on the diet. It’s Grilled Pineapple Chicken with Grilled Zucchini. YUMMERS!!!! So keep an eye out for that in the next day or so.

Still juicing, and still feeling great from that. Honestly my skin has cleared up a TON! So that is a nice benefit. I’m not going to weight myself until Monday, when we all do our 2 week check in. There are 8 of us doing this weight loss challenge, and two are pretty much already out, so I’m going to keep on powering through.
